Multi-stage MMSE decision feedback equalization for EDGE

چکیده
Compared to wired channels, time dispersive radio channels possess more frequent nulls in their spectral characteristics. Thus, the performance of linear filters to compensate intersymbol interference degrades dramatically. The well-known nonlinear Decision Feedback Equalizer (DFE) is one approach to improve this behavior. However, in systems with observations of high dimensionality, the optimum DFE stmcture is computational intensive. In this paper, we apply the method of the Multi-Stage Wiener Filter (MSWF) to a conventional Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) DFE in order to reduce computational complexity. The application of the new algorithm to an Enhanced Data rates f o r GSM Evolution (EDGE) system demonstrates the ability to outperform the even more computational intensive linear Wiener Filter (WF).

Decision-feedback equalization for CDMA downlink
A well–known receiver strategy for a linearly modulated signal transmitted over a frequency–selective channel is channel equalization. Recently it was proposed to employ a minimum mean–squared error (MMSE) channel equalizer for the downlink of CDMA. In this paper, we introduce a new receiver concept using MMSE channel equalization as a first stage and MMSE decision–feedback equalization (DFE) u...

The radio interface EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution) is currently being standardized as an evolutionary path from GSM and TDMA-IS136 for third-generation high-speed data wireless systems. For the EDGE system with multiple antennas, spatial-temporal equalization (STE) can reduce intersymbol interference and co-channel interference, thereby increasing the capacity and range. In thi...
متن کاملMMSE–Based Iterative Equalization with Soft Feedback for QAM Transmission over Sparse Channels
In this paper, an equalization algorithm based on soft–decision feedback, designed for transmission with square QAM constellations is introduced. The algorithm employs a minimum mean–squared error (MMSE) filter in each iteration in order to refine the data estimates. The rule for generating soft decisions is adapted continuously to the current state of the algorithm. It is shown that the algori...
متن کاملMatched–Filter– and MMSE–Based Iterative Equalization with Soft Feedback for QPSK Transmission
In this paper, two novel equalization algorithms applying soft–decision feedback, designed for quaternary phase–shift keying (QPSK) transmission are introduced. The first one uses a matched filter (MF) as a front end and is derived from [1] where it was originally developed for binary transmission. The second one is an improved version of the first, employing a minimum mean–squared error (MMSE)...
متن کاملMMSE decision feedback equalizer from channel estimate
In digital radio transmission over frequency selective channels, the Minimum Mean-Square Error Decision Feedback Equalizer (MMSE-DFE) is widely recognized as an efficient equalization scheme. In order to compute the coefficients of the feedforward and feedback filters of the MMSE-DFE, both the channel impulse response (CIR) and the variance of the noise have to be estimated. The estimate of the...
